How do I add impersonation to my ASP.NET site?

Adding impersonation allows the web server process to run as your primary File Transfer Protocol (FTP) user. This means that it has permission to write to your files, create files, create folders, and other activities that would normally require full read, write, and execute permissions.

For customers who are in our SAT datacenter, you will need to add the following to your web.config file:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
<configuration>
<system.web>
<identity impersonate="true" userName="sat\USERNAME" password="PASSWORD" />
</system.web>
</configuration>
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

For customers who are in our DFW datacenter, you will need to add the following to your web.config file:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
<configuration>
<system.web>
<identity impersonate="true" userName="dfw\USERNAME" password="PASSWORD" />
</system.web>
</configuration>
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

or customers who are in our ORD datacenter, you will need to add the following to your web.config file:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
<configuration>
<system.web>
<identity impersonate="true" userName="ord\USERNAME" password="PASSWORD" />
</system.web>
</configuration>
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

NOTE: YOU *MUST* USE THE USERNAME WHICH IS CONFIGURED TO BE THE PRIMARY FTP ACCOUNT FOR THE CLOUD SITE YOU ARE WORKING WITH. IF THE SITE WAS CREATED UNDER YOUR MAIN ACCOUNT, THIS WILL BE YOUR MAIN CONTROL PANEL LOGIN CREDENTIALS. IF THE SITE WAS CREATED UNDER A CLIENT, PLEASE USE THE CLIENT'S MAIN ACCOUNT CREDENTIALS. WHEN IN DOUBT, YOU CAN ALWAYS CLICK THE SECURITY TAB FOR A CLOUD SITE TO CONFIRM THE PRIMARY FTP ACCOUNT.

Please make sure that you rebuild the application once you have made this change (refer to the following article).

How to Rebuild the Application in Cloud Sites

Also note, this will only work on ASP.NET through a web.config file. If you are not sure what datacenter you are provisioned to, please see What is SAT and DFW?
